Mid-April Check-in

I've found myself off to a rather slow start with my quilt project, and it all stems from the fact that I'm beginning from scratch—no fabric cut out, no blocks thoughtfully laid out yet. The beautiful fabric's still neatly folded, patiently waiting for its moment to shine, and I can't help but feel the overwhelming excitement of what lies ahead. It’s just a matter of gathering my thoughts, organizing my ideas into a cohesive vision, and taking that very first snip to bring this creative endeavor to life!

The pattern delights with over 25 different prints, creating a vibrant tapestry that’s both visually stunning and uniquely complex. However, the process of cutting each block has proven to be quite time-consuming, as each carefully selected fabric demands individual attention and precision. This meticulous effort pays off in the end, transforming fabric scraps into a cohesive masterpiece, but the journey through layers of colorful prints definitely challenges your patience. Embracing this playful adventure in sewing can be rewarding, resulting in a quilt that’s not just a project, but a celebration of creativity!

Sunday, I spent over three hours prepping fabric for cutting, and after all that hard work, I only managed to cut out five prints. Oh, the joys and trials of crafting! Each piece has its own little story, and while the time felt stretched like a well-loved quilt, it was worth every moment.

The process of preparing fabric can be almost meditative— ironing and folding it all just right so it lays straight on the cutting mat. But once you get to the cutting, it’s like the anticipation of a grand reveal. I meticulously laid out my prints, feeling a bit like an artist with a canvas, only to realize that time flies when you're in the zone!

But hey, it’s not just about the outcome; it’s about the joy of creation. Five prints may not seem like a huge haul, but they’re five steps closer to a masterpiece. Each roll of the rotary cutter is one more glimpse into what’s to come. I’ll be back at it soon, armed with patience and a cup of Coke Zero, ready to conquer the rest of that fabric pile!

I’ve spent time over the week cutting a little here and there, marking on my pattern print outs which have been cut and which remain. I still have 15 fabrics to cut out. Fortunately, I purchased yardage instead of the quilt kit (mostly because the kit had sold out by the time I went to purchase it), so I have plenty left over for some of the bonus projects - if I want to complete those as well!

I've made great progress on my Epcot stitching project! The vibrant colors of Spaceship Earth are coming to life with each stitch I add. I've just finished the charming details of the iconic geodesic sphere, or at least the first quarter of it. It's been a delightful journey so far, and I can't wait to see it all come together in a beautifully stitched piece that captures the magic of Epcot!
