April Project of the Month
April has arrived, and while the world outside is bursting into bloom, I'm just now diving into my quilt and cross-stitch projects for the month. Life has thrown a few curveballs, leaving my sewing machine and embroidery floss gathering a bit of dust. But instead of feeling daunted, I’m embracing this late start as an opportunity to sprinkle a little extra creativity and enthusiasm into my projects. There’s something delightful about catching up and infusing my craft with joy—after all, it’s the journey and the playful spirit that truly count!
I mentioned in my first post, “Let’s Get Finishing!”, that I was following - and crafting - along with The Quilted Forest as she works to finish projects each month. Head over to her YouTube to see what project she’s working on in April. She drew project #12.
Looking back at my initial post, project #12 is the Heartfelt QAL. I haven’t even started it!! The patterns are printed, the yardage is all packaged up in a storage tote in my supply room, but this one is going to be big, really involved, and take a lot of time and effort. I’m looking forward to the challenge, but also a little intimidated by all the half-square triangles I’ll have to do for all the heart shapes. If you want to make your own, you can head over to Fat Quarter Shop and pick up the pattern from them. The specific fabric for the sample quilt is out of print now, but it would be beautiful in any other colorways from your stash or a different, more current fabric line as well.
For all previous months this year, I’ve used a random number generator to pick the number for my cross stitch project. This month, I landed on #4: Spaceship Earth. I’m excited to really get going on this one! I started it years ago, but I lined the pattern pages up wrong, got off on my counting, and had to unpick the whole thing and start over. It was very frustrating.
I’m stitching on 18 count white Aida, using 2 strands of called for DMC floss from the pattern. I purchased several Disney-themed patterns that kind of go along with this one, and I’m excited to eventually get them all done. Someday, I want to have a wall of my cross stitch interspersed with my Loungefly Disney bags and my Minnie Ears. Wouldn’t that be so fun? First, I need a bigger wall to fit them all!
Stay tuned throughout the month as I dive deep into both of these projects! With each stitch and cut, I’m hoping to make exciting progress towards finishing. I can’t wait to share all the playful twists and creative turns that will unfold as I bring these ideas to life. Let’s craft this journey together—who knows what delightful surprises await!
