Joanna Makes . . . The Stardust Charity Quilt
Fat Quarter Shop is hosting their annual Make-A-Wish Charity Quilt-Along. This year the quilt is called Stardust. It’s a fun play on the traditional star block, and features bright colors from the Summertime fabric collection by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics. Initially, there was a quilt kit and a backing kit for sale. By the time I decided to jump aboard this quilty train, the quilt kit had already sold out. Instead, I purchased yardage from the Summertime collection. I also picked up the backing kit, which was still available.
Supplies for the Stardust Charity Quilt Along
The quilt pattern is written two ways: using regular half-square triangles (the bane of my existence, if I’m being honest) and using Fat Quarter Shop’s Triangles on a Roll paper. I bought the paper and decided to try it. I have never in my life had more perfect half-square triangles. I know my 1/4 inch seam isn’t exact, but even so my blocks came out almost perfectly!
Release One of the pattern sewed up pretty quickly, once I got the triangle paper part completed. It’s a bit longer of a process, but totally worth it for how perfect your blocks come out! You can still get yardage for this project from Fat Quarter Shop (or check your LQS, use your stash, or a different fabric line if desired), and the pattern is free online with a suggested donation to Make-A-Wish in exchange.
As you can see, I had a little helper throughout the entire process! Kat likes to be right in the middle of things. While I was pressing, she would take over the wool pressing mat and snuggle up because it was warm from the iron. She likes to wedge herself under my extended table on my sewing machine. And of course, she has to stretch out and lounge on the finished work during the photo shoot.
Quilting not your thing? No worries! There is a stitch along as well! Head on over to Fat Quarter Shop for the supply list and pattern for release one. Spoiler alert: I’m doing both! I haven’t started on release one of the stitching yet - I’m still gathering my supplies - but I’m excited to stitch this one up as well. It’s going to be a fun, quick, and easy project to stay caught up and on target.
As you dive into your own crafting adventures, remember that every finished piece tells a story, whether it’s a knitted scarf or a colorful quilt. Embrace the joy of creating and don’t shy away from trying new techniques! If I hadn’t tried the triangle paper, I would never have known my triangle points could be this perfect. Your imagination is the only limit in this playful world of crafting. So grab your supplies, let your creativity flow, and start turning those ideas into pieces that spark joy, one stitch and print at a time! Happy crafting!
