June Project & May Progress
May was a whirlwind of commitments that left little time for sewing, much to my disappointment. Between juggling work projects and family obligations, my sewing machine sat quietly, collecting dust instead of creating fabric magic. I missed the tactile joy of cutting fabric and hearing the gentle hum of the machine, so here's hoping June brings some extra hours and a sprinkle of inspiration to get back to my beloved craft!
May came and went, and my quilt project (Project #8 from my list: Haunted Halloween) sat completely untouched on my cutting table. In my defense, there was a lot going on last month over here.
Mother’s Day is a huge holiday for our family. Not because we love celebrating our mother’s (we do, don’t get me wrong) but because my family works at a family-owned local floral shop. Mother’s Day weekend is a huge weekend for flower deliveries, and it was all hands on deck! My teenaged son has his learner’s permit, and he helped with some of the close local deliveries, getting driving hours in (which of course meant that I had to accompany him as the licensed adult).
Then we had high school graduation. Same teenaged son is actually an adult teenaged son (eighteen) and he graduated with high honors from high school!! It was a proud mama moment for sure.
The following week was Memorial Day weekend. While it’s another big flower weekend (for a different reason - fewer deliveries, more in-store pick ups) we also went camping as a family. I love camping because there’s all the time in the world to sit up the canyon in nature and sunshine and stitch away on projects. But, unfortunately that means I didn’t get any actual sewing done because there isn’t electricity for a sewing machine or iron up there.
Finished cross stitch: Sunflower Fields, featuring a bike, sunflowers, and blue birds with a bunting banner across the top.
My cross stitch project to work on in May was Sunflower Fields (or Project #6). I started the month with this one about halfway completed, and I’m not sure why it really took every ounce of self-control to sit down and focus on finishing this one, but it did. Happily, it is finished and ready to be finished however I choose for display during late summer/early fall with the rest of my sunflower decor.
Now that June is here, it’s time for 2 new projects! The Quilted Forest picked project #8 for June. It’s funny, because in her YouTube video, she was hoping for an easier project this month. I was too, and Project #8 for me is to finish up the 2 leftover projects from the Christmas 2023 Advent Box by GE Designs. The first 2 projects were pretty easy to sew up, so I’m hoping these last 2 are just as quick to finish! I need a win, as I haven’t made much progress at all over the past few months.
To pick my cross stitch project, I ran my options through a random number generator that also picked project #8! My cross stitch Project #8 is The Quilted Witch (pattern by Lori Holt). This stitch along started in September 2023, hosted by Fat Quarter Shop. I bought the pattern but that’s as far as I got in 2023. Recently, I bought some fabric and last night I pulled the DMC floss I need from my stash. I need to purchase a few skeins of colors I’m low on, but other than that, I’m ready to get started!
While this piece is huge, it’s very detailed. I’m hoping my ADHD brain can actually stick with it and make some progress this month. I tend to get bored if there are large sections of filling in the same color (like with Project #7, Frosty Type Face, and Project #5, Love Note).
Now that school is out and we’re officially into the summer months, I hope you can make some progress on whatever projects you’re working on as well! Here’s to a busy and productive month! Now, let’s go get crafting!!
